Birmingham Alabama Real Estate Sold by Franklins of Bham

Finding Character

In a 100 Year Old Home

Being new residents to Birmingham coming from Mobile this couple didn’t quite know where to start. We helped guide them with financing and what their budget would look like. Putting together all of their needs we finally figured out what they needed. We took into consideration where they worked and how far they wanted to commute, and then narrowed it down to where we needed to look.

For their buying purposes we landed on Leeds, Alabama. We started with viewing a new build neighborhood. Right now, everyone wants something new. To our surprise they were not real thrilled and felt as though the house where lacking originality. After looking at several houses we found that their personalities where just a full as their hopes for their home. They wanted character and aesthetic that could not be found in a newer homes. We looked at some mid century homes as well as some modern homes but it just wasn’t right for them.

Shortly after we began searching a three bedroom two bathroom house on 2 acres came for sale. When we pulled up and saw that it was a 100-year-old home with original character that was well-maintained, we knew this could be the one for them. We scheduled a showing. When we walked in the door you could see their faces light up. From the original old hardwood floors, to the small closets that were quaint but perfect for the age of the home they loved all the character the home had to offer. The previous sellers had updated the kitchen to be a little bit larger and made it everything they needed for their modern convenience. Let’s not forget that the 2 acres was perfect for their two fur babies!

That night we went to dinner and discussed what they wanted to do for an offer for the home. We decided on how to make the offer and submitted it to the selling agent that day. Between some negotiations and understanding of certain situations we finally landed on a price and moved on to closing. Everything works well for those who act in human kindness and understanding! When buying or selling a house we’re all on the same page trying to get the house sold and to the right people.

On our way to closing a very unfortunate and unpredictable event hit, the pandemic… Covid-19. But, we were not about to let us stop them from getting their dream home. Everyone involved in the transaction was committed to making sure that the buyers and sellers were able to get to the closing table. We were able to meet at the closing attorney‘s office, wearing masks of course, and close on their home for them. Little did they know that they would be quarantined there for the next two months! After all that they still love their home. Helping first time home buyer’s is such a joy. This is why we do what we do, this is why we love what we do.
